About Carbon Footprint Calculator
As awareness about climate change grows, many individuals are looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint. A significant portion of the average person’s carbon emissions comes from transportation, which includes flying, driving, riding a motorbike, and using public transport like buses. Each of these activities contributes to carbon emissions in different ways and at varying levels.
What is Carbon Footprint?
A carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases, primarily carbon dioxide (CO2), that are released into the atmosphere as a result of human activities. These emissions arise from burning fossil fuels for energy, such as petrol and diesel for vehicles or jet fuel for airplanes. Carbon footprints can be measured for individuals, households, companies, or even entire countries, and they are often expressed in kilograms or tonnes of CO2.
Transportation and Carbon Emissions
Transportation is one of the largest contributors to global carbon emissions. Each form of transportation emits different amounts of CO2 based on fuel consumption and efficiency.
-
Flights: Air travel is one of the most carbon-intensive modes of transportation. The longer the flight, the more fuel is burned, leading to higher emissions. Even short-haul flights emit substantial CO2 per passenger, contributing to a large portion of personal carbon footprints.
-
Cars: Cars also contribute significantly to CO2 emissions, depending on their fuel efficiency, engine size, and driving habits. Petrol and diesel cars emit more carbon per kilometre than electric vehicles, though electric cars may have an initial carbon cost due to battery production.
-
Motorbikes: Although motorbikes typically use
