Using the ROI formula, $200 divided by $100 gives a quotient of 2, which when multiplied by 100 becomes an ROI of 200%.

Now consider a different scenario where an investor puts $10,000 into a project and earns a net profit of $5,000. The ROI is calculated by dividing $15,000 (total earnings) by $10,000 (the initial investment), resulting in a ratio of 1.5, or 150% when expressed as a percentage. Even though the second scenario involves more money, the first investment delivers a higher ROI, showing how ROI helps compare investment efficiency.

Benefits of ROI

ROI offers several advantages. It's a simple, widely understood metric that helps forecast potential returns, set goals for projects, and measure success across departments. It also helps both professionals and non-experts make informed decisions about where to allocate resources. By comparing historical returns, ROI can guide you in optimizing future investments.
